It’s really easy to take your own preferences and justify them, coming up with some sort of lofty moral reason that you are right. When I’m annoyed at someone, I can easily come up with a narrative that makes me feel like I’m standing up for something important, when I’m just being grumpy.
This is easy to fall into. I think it’s just human nature. But it can really lead us astray easily and keep us from important growth and meaningful relationships. It’s hard to resist, but the best way I know how is to try to be able to laugh at myself.
