Volunteers who want to help their neighbors become more physically fit train to become fitness instructors through Shape Up NYC, a free program offered by NYC Parks, in partnership with Equinox, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, NYC Service, and the Mayor's Obesity Task Force.

Natural Areas Volunteers (NAVigators) is a new service program that recruits, trains, and supports volunteers for a variety of ecological projects across the city. NAVigators also help establish New York City as a global destination for environmental service projects in addition to developing a well-trained corps of locally committed volunteers.

Presented by NYC Parks Department and the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA), Winter Jam NYC is a free annual winter sports festival that encourages New Yorkers to get out and enjoy the outdoors in the colder months.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy volunteers joined the clean up effort at The Battery.

This 40-foot-tall steel sculpture by Monika Sosnowska was installed at the southeast corner of Central Park in Fall/Winter 2012-2013.

Niki de Saint Phalle's signature sculptures (nanas, totems, athletes, and jazz musicians) of polyester resin, with mosaics of ceramic, mirror, and stained glass are temporarily situated on the Park Avenue Malls for an exhibition commemorating the tenth anniversary of Saint Phalle's passing, celebrating the life and achievements of a monumental artist.

The Citywide Monuments Conservation Program performs conservation and maintenance of the extensive and irreplaceable public art collection in New York City's parks. Since its inception, the program has conserved 60 sculptures and provided full-scale, high-quality annual care for more than 100 additional sculptures and monuments. The work crews consist of seasonal conservation trainees selected from graduate programs in historic preservation, objects conservation, art history, and fine arts. The apprentices work under the direction of the Monuments Program's professional conservation staff. The program is supported by individual, corporate, and foundation grants; the City Parks Foundation is its fiscal sponsor.
