It’s Not OK To Treat Yourself Like Sh*t

You must know what’s OK and what’s NOT OK in  the relationship you have to YOURSELF. 

It’s NOT OK:

  • to blame yourself or feel at “fault” for having:
    • a neurodivergent brain
  • experiencing anxiety or depression
  • having ADD or ADHD
  • feeling what you feel
  • to avoid taking responsibility for your brain, mental health, or emotions
  • label yourself:
    • “I’m a procrastinator, a flake, stupid, bad… “
  • to SHOULD yourself:
    • “I should be/do/feel… “
  • to use “black and white thinking words” like:
    • good/bad
  • right/wrong
  • selfish
  • to allow stress to go unaddressed and unmanaged
  • to ignore your anger
  • to lie to yourself
  • Here’s what’s OK in the relationship to yourself:

    • taking responsibility for your circumstances, mental health, and emotions
  • creating new identities for yourself
  • intentionally choosing new vocabulary to empower yourself
  • feeling stressed, getting triggered, having stress cycles, and closing the cycles daily
  • feeling anger all the way through
  • telling yourself the truth AND giving yourself the permission to assume a holding pattern until you have clarity
  • When do you notice:

    • blaming yourself?
  • telling yourself it’s all your “fault”?
  • labeling yourself?
  • using words like “good” or “bad”?
  • ignoring or avoiding your stress?
  • reacting to anger and lashing out at yourself or others?
  • lying to yourself?
  • When do you notice being willing to:

    • take responsibility for your life and circumstances?
  • create new identities?
  • stop using “triggering” words and replace them with empowering words?
  • notice your stress triggers, stress cycles, and actively close the stress cycles daily?
  • feel your anger all the way through until the URGENCY dissipates?
  • “buy yourself the time” to calm your body and get curious about the cause of your anger, hurt, or fear?
  • telling yourself the truth without forcing yourself to do anything about it yet?
