As protesters march in cities across the globe following the death of George Floyd in police custody, numerous athletes, coaches, teams, and leagues have issued statements of condolence for the Floyd family and support for the Black community. But for many, NFL commissioner Robert Goodell’s statement felt hollow after his league’s treatment of former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and his peaceful protest of systemic racism and police brutality.
