In part 3, Karen and Jared discuss how these consequences are illustrated through recent book bans plaguing Florida and threatening elsewhere. They conclude the conversation with an eye towards non-political solutions to local problems, fueled by community and facilitated with good technology. After traveling and living all around the country for some years, Jared came three years ago to the South Toe River Valley where, ensconced in forest, he has lived happily since. Here he participates in local food chains, helping out on a farm and taking advantage of nearby natural abundance - particularly mushrooms! With educational backgrounds in psychology and permaculture, he has come to understand both the power and necessity of community. Towards this end he develops and promotes Beacon to his local community, the larger Asheville area, and beyond!
