Ivan Irwin not only was a defensemen for the New York Rangers and Montreal Canadians in the 1950’s but he was a friend of our family for well over 35 years. I first met Ivan when I was a 10 year old kid. He was the new beau of our family friend Peg. As a kid, I’d never met “new boyfriends” of my parents friends. Ivan was a kind and gentle soul from as long as I can remember. He died peacefully with his family at his side February 11th at 4:45AM at the age of 91. Condolences to his family, friends and all who met the legend.
