Hola and welcome. I think the title says it all. I had to apparently take a two week hiatus and am just now getting to putting the finishing touches on this episode. So, I had a baby. Not me, perse, but my girlfriend. We had a whole baby and, as a dad to a newborn, I think I should be allowed to speak on it. Who the hell am I kidding?! This episode is very near and dear to my heart. I get to talk about one of the craziest experiences of my life. I get to tell the false labor story...then the actual labor story..and it all comes out as the ramblings of a madman, so what's not to love? I open some pretty deep doors to the old soul with this one. I had to feel this one. I had to have pictures of all my kids and my newborn daughter in the room for this one. We are talking about something I never figured would happen. You know what, just listen. Hear a first time dad talk about all the first time shit that a first time dad went through for..the first time. Oh, and I've Got You Under My Skin by Frank is the song I used to always sing to my baby girl while she was in her momma's belly. Enjoy.
Yes! I told you that this would happen. A late posted episode, but I need to soak it all in. This marks the debut of my first full week of Proper Rumpus shows. All three have now dropped in a week and it's something I have worked so hard to FINALLY realize. Coming off of Turkey Day, there is so much that I have to be thankful for, and here, I guess, was the episode to do it. Listen to the trails that got me here and how blessed I am to have you along for the ride. I talk about some of the future plans that I have for this brand, as well as reflecting on why I started to begin with, and what has changed. This isn't a victory lap, but it's the start of something crazy. I just wanna thank you for being a part of it. Be peace and stick the landing.
What's in a name? Apparently, not too much. The name has changed. We dropped the 101 and spun up a new logo. While doing that, I sat and thought about the influences that drive me. Who my new heroes are. The heights of which I wanna push this art that I love so much. You get a nice explaination about the dropped Jabbo and The Teeb episode, along with a possible curve ball. The Cheo interview may be back on the table, and with that being a dream come true, I decided to drop myself fully into what I love about being a Blerd, or black nerd. I go over it all, the impact of Mr. Boseman and what it means to be a black artist. I delve into the brilliance of Cheo Coker and his true influence on my craft. I talk Black Panther and why it is so important to have diversity on the big as well as the small screen. It's just the ramblings of Old Man Jabbs, but hey, what else do you show up for? Be peace and enjoy. I got a long ass day head and I'm gonna TRY to stick the landing.
Man, this episode took me deep. I love doing this. I love talking with people, making their stories more available to you, and I try to keep it to my village, so it's a very personal thing for me. I will hopefully one day get to talk to many more people and share many more stories, and this may be my biggest step there. This episode was so hard for me to do. My little brother, five years out from being released from a sixteen year bid, finally came through to visit. We had always talked around what happened that night and how his life had changed as a result. I never asked about his life inside. You get to hear a thirty year friendship celebrated, a few tears shed, the warm promise of much greener pastures, and a work ethic like none other explained. It was a hard sit down, but it was needed. It really may lead to a small series within this show to cover different aspects of his life. Please enjoy a tidbit of our back and forth, with alot more to come.
Coming off of the two years at Jabbo and the Teeb, I take a break to explain this podcast life to you. All the crap that you don't get to hear about that goes into this life we have chosen. I delve a little into why comedy and comedians mean so much to me and my soul connection with the art. All the things that I love about podcasting and the shit I hate. Hear about my dreams with this thing and the new projects on the rise. Also, I get asked alot about the Dave Chappelle show and how I feel about it. I finally sit down and give all the people in the cheap seats the A's to the Q's, and try not to commit podcast suicide. What's not to love? It's another episode of Jabbology, and it's a little bit of alright.
She is the youngest, most out spoken, kindest, and sassiest person I've ever had on my show. This personality filled nine year old blew into my life like a tornado and I believe I am all the better for it. She's been around to know that I had two podcasts and had been begging to be on "the one you would let me listen to." I was thinking she meant this one, and in true parent nature, I told her to do something worthy to talk about on my show, and she had a deal. She now has a YouTube channel and started a VERY profitable bookmark business a week ago. I think it's safe to say she's earned thisd spot and showed me what she was made of. How could I not have her on? Besides, she lives down the hall from me, and bugged me for "my people to call her people". lol. Listen. You'll see what I mean. Enjoy!
Finally able to do this again. It's like taking a deep ass breath and getting back to business. Wanna know why a week of my special self just disappeared? Why are you getting a random ass Jabbology? It's my show, so watch my smoke. Questions answered and me back at what I do best. Let's do this...
Another great convo for me to get to share with you all. Longtime friend and mentor. Godfather to my kiddo. Inspiration for El Pulso. lol. Everytime you hear my terrible latin accent, this is the base of where it comes from. We talk about the world, spirituality, religion, and the struggle to hold on to whatever beliefs you may have. This episode runs a little hot, but I think there is something for everyone. Come and enjoy, besides, if not, think of all the jacked up shit you can give me AFTER you listen, lol
Well, here it is! I told you I'd be open and transparent and stick my circle in front of you, well it doesn't get much closer than this. Sit in with the lady that knows me best, my girlfriend. We drop a few surprises for listeners in this candid one on one. Here HER side of the story on the show, our vacay, our art, social media, all of it. lol. We even talk about the struggles of dating a bestie and the pluses and negatives of it all. She's just as window licking special as I am and her heart is just as big. You'll see why she is my favorite person on this planet and hope you enjoy her as much as I do. Not like humoing and stuff, just the part where you think she's cool. lol. Enjoy!
