Special Counsel Jack Smith has filed a motion in Donald Trump's DC prosecution seeking to protect jurors from  Trump's dangerous speech and social media posts. The "Motion for Fair and Protective Jury Procedures" seeks to have the court use a juror questionnaire to streamline the jury selection process in the DC case, and seeks to prohibit Trump and his lawyers from publicly disclosing the identities of - or attempt to communicate with - prospective jurors in any way. Notably in the motion, Smith lays out Trump's "attack," via a social media post, on New York Judge Engoron's law clerk and the ensuing gag order imposed by the judge. According to Glenn - by informing Judge Chutkan about Trump's most recent dangerous post, Smith seems to be priming the well in advance of the October 16 gag order hearing set in Trump's Washington DC case. Reps Mike Johnson and Jim Jordan Have Decided Their Full-Time Job is to Obstruct Justice for Trump

On July 11th, Judge Juan Merchan will sentence Donald Trump on his 34 felony convictions. Just as is true in all criminal sentencing hearings, Judge Merchan will base his sentence in part, on whether Trump will take responsibility for his crimes. Indeed, after a conviction, accepting responsibility for one's crimes is the first step on the road to rehabilitation. If a defendant refuses to accept responsibility for his crimes, that suggests that he is not amenable to rehabilitation, and it generally will result in a longer prison term. Will Trump accept responsibility for his crimes? When pigs fly. One of the accepted principles of sentencing is general deterrence - deterring others from committing the same or similar crimes that Trump committed, crimes designed to gain unfair advantage in a presidential election. If ever a prison term was necessary to deter others who would choose to replicate Trump crimes, it is in this New York case. By Refusing to Take Responsibility for His Crimes, Donald Trump May Pave His Own Way to Prison

During jury selection in Donald Trump's criminal trial in New York, some on the right, like Rep. Matt Gaetz, were celebrating - gloating even - when they learned that a gentleman designated "juror # 2" told the judge during jury selection that he gets his news from Truth Social. Matt Gaetz even tweeted, "LFG Juror #2!" Well, juror # 2, together with his 11 fellow jurors, voted unanimously to convict Trump on all 34 felony charges. And they convicted him in a New York minute - deliberating less than two days after a several-weeks-long trial. What Does it Say that a "Truth Social" Juror Convicted Donald Trump on All 34 Counts?

We have nearly 300,000 unsolved murders in the United States. That's 300,000 families who sit by the phone waiting for a call to come from a detective saying, "we've got a break in your loved one's case." These calls almost never come. When I retired from the Department of Justice, after decades of prosecuting murder cases in Washington, DC, I was determined to do something about that, and I proposed the Homicide Victim's Families Rights Act ("HVFRA") to Congressman Eric Swalwell, himself a former prosecutor. He heard me out and led the charge in an effort to bring long-overdue hope and help to homicide families. In 2022, the HVFRA became law, and it provides that homicide families have a legal right to require the involved police department to review the homicide investigation of their loved one and, depending on the results of the review, a full reinvestigation by a new team of detectives. We are now in the process of pushing this federal law to the states as model legislation to help homicide families in all 50 states. And we need your help - homicide families need your help. Below is a short, sample letter you can write to your state elected officials urging them to pass a state version of the HVFRA. Help bring hope - and legal rights - to homicide families in your state: 
 Dear Senator/Representative _______________, 
 I am writing to urge you to enact a state version of the federal Homicide Victims’ Families’ Rights Act (“HVFRA”). The HVFRA is designed to give families who lost a loved one to violent crime a legal right to have the relevant police department conduct a review of the homicide investigation once the case has grown cold and, depending on the result of the review, a full re-investigation. 
 Homicide families sit by the phone waiting for a call from a detective saying, “we have a break in your loved one’s case.” Those calls almost never come. Homicide families deserve to have a legal right to have their loved one’s homicide investigated fully, thoroughly, and professionally, and the HVFRA gives families that right. 
 Georgia has passed a version of the HVFRA, California is moving in that direction, and hopefully other states will soon follow suit. 
 Please give homicide families in our state some hope that their loved one’s case will be given a review/reinvestigation to ensure that everything that can be done will be done to bring some closure and healing to families that have suffered the loss of a loved one to violent crime.
