AVERAGE GROCERY PRICES - If you feel like you're paying more than ever for groceries right now, you're likely right. According to the Census Bureau’s Household pulse survey, the average American spends $1,000 a month on groceries and $270 a week. The exact amount depends on the number of people in a home and where they live. Households California, Washington state and Florida have some of the highest bills, while homes in North Carolina, New York and Illinois pay the least.
