    Many Black women nationwide face discrimination in the workplace because of their natural hair and other protective styles. That’s why women are working to pass the CROWN Act at the state and federal levels. The legislation stands for “Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair” and it prohibits race-based hair discrimination in the workplace and education because of hair texture or protective hairstyles This includes braids, locs, twists or bantu knots. The law has passed in nearly two dozen states and there are continued efforts to pass it at the federal level. This comes as a recent nationwide survey shreds light on the systemic social and economic impact of hair bias and discrimination against Black women in the workplace. We breakdown those findings and which states/cities have passed the law.
