    This afternoon, the US House is prepared to give the final approval to a bill that protects same-sex and interracial marriages. This comes after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade earlier this year, leading to some concerns about the potential of same-sex marriage protections being overturned as well. The Respect for Marriage Act received bipartisan support in the Senate with 12 Republicans voting in favor of the bill but the House vote may not have the same GOP support. Today’s vote is the last step before this bill can head to President Biden’s desk and become law. We break down the impact of this legislation and what we can expect today.

Justices will consider whether state courts can rely on their state constitutions to strike down politically flawed redistricting maps. This case stems from North Carolina’s Republican-led legislature’s latest attempt to draw U.S. House districts favoring GOP candidates. Those lawmakers argue that the U.S. Constitution gives that power over federal elections to only state legislatures and Congress. This medal is Congress’s highest honor. There will be medals places throughout the Capitol complex including U.S. Capitol Police headquarters and the Metropolitan Police Department. This comes as the congressional committee investigating the brutal attack has a small window to release their findings.
