Let the Baby Battle Begin
Jacob found more than safety from his brother in the house of his uncle Laban. He also found a bride. Jacob entered into an agreement to marry Laban's daughter, Rachel, but Laban manipulated events so that Jacob ended up with both Rachel and her sister Leah as brides. Now as Jacob continues to labor for his uncle, the sister brides will compete for Jacob's love and favor through childbearing.
This week we read through Genesis 29-30 and see Jacob's new family grow in record speeds. We'll compare and contrast the two ways that Rachel and Leah deal with the circumstance they find themselves in and see how their actions and reactions demonstrate the truth of the words in the New Testament: God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
