Episode 5 of the 2024 Kick-Off series.

In this episode:

Let there be Light (In Him was life; and the life was the light of men).

In this series:

First, Happy New Year, but I prefer Blessed New Year because if 2024 is filled with God’s Blessings, there will be much to be “happy” about. 

The change of the calendar into a new year doesn’t automatically new us, some of us brought in baggage from last year (2023) and are hoping that things will magically pick up the new aura. Once the New Year newness starts to fade, reality sets in of some of the things we set on the shelf to celebrate the holidays! 

So how do we deal with the new year expectations and unknowns coupled with some of the previous year’s baggage? Hmmm…It’s a fair question to ask… 

I was asking myself and decided, how about we draw some inspiration from some of the “beginnings” we see in scripture, How did God deal with them?

The first one is from Gen 1:1-4

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

The second one is from John 1:1-9

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

Summary of these two beginnings:

Light and Life!!!

I believe this is what we all need as we sojourn through the unknown and unfamiliar of 2024 with some baggage on our backs. And who better to Light up and Life-us than our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ?! 

Prov 13:12 says; Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. We need a full tank of Hope.

Before we take off into 2024, let’s spend some time on the runway refuelling with the words Jesus first spoke at the beginning of His earthly ministry.

Part 8 of the 2023 Roud Up series. 

In this episode:

I'll be the first to admit, I never thought followers of Christ needed to fight but more than ever before, the more I read Paul's letters to us which have become so personal to me that I call them Paul's letters to me: he charges me (us) to have a mentality of a warrior on a battlefield because it's true, as followers of Christ, we are enlisted for the war by default, satan will not stop until he sees you defeated so must strap up a mentality to fight as they did in heaven - Rev 12:11b says; "and they loved not their lives unto the death..."

Three times in his letters to me (to Timothy), Paul tells me three things which I believe we must take in our check-in luggage for 2024:

It's evident that, like many of us today, Timothy lacked these strands in his Spiritual DNA so, Paul exhorts him three times to be attuned to this reality as a believer, so I charge you to bring these three mindsets into 2024.

To really birth the Life of God (Eternal Life / Hai / Zoe) in us and through us we have to recalibrate our minds to think of the WORDS in the Bible as an architectural plan of the spirit realm which has several dimensions. We tend to approach scripture as text-linearly but we never really pause to picture these words as having structure and dimensions to them in the spirit. Just like it would be hard for us to look at an architect's plan and imagine what the real structure looks like especially without a 3D rendering, the same goes for scripture! This is where we need the Holy Spirit - to help us with our imagination of the spiritual realities at play behind the WORDS we read. Without this empowerment, we can never be bearers of the life-changing Life of God we carry within us.
