October 5, 2023: After a year in the wilderness with the abrupt midseason departure of former head coach, Mark Turgeon, the Terrapins returned again to prominence in the Big Ten last year. They did it with transfer point guard Jahmir Young under new head coach Kevin Willard from Seton Hall. Maryland made its hay at home last year in the Big Ten but struggled on the road despite being a fairly sound team on both ends of the court.

This year, Maryland returns most of its players and adds some top level recruits suggesting that a high NCAA tournament bid is likely in their future. Whether there is enough horsepower to challenge Purdue and Michigan State for the conference title is still in doubt. The fastest way to turn things around for the best would be if the Terrapins could start hitting from outside as they were a dreadful 32.8% last season(#238 in the country).
