Ep. 15: Boodhi Buddhimaan Bakri (बूढ़ी बुद्धिमान बकरी - शिवानी)
This is a story written by Shivani (also known as Gaura Pant). Shivani usually writes serious stories of life but she has written some adorable stories for kids. This is one such stories from Shivani's book - Radhika Sundari. I have added a little bit of drama in the story.
शिवानी (गौरा पंत) वैसे तो गंभीर कहानियाँ लिखती हैं लेकिन उनकी बाल कहानियाँ भी बहुत मनोरंजक हैं और ये कहानी है एक बूढ़ी किंतु बुद्धिमान बकरी की, जो शिवानी के कहानी संग्रह "राधिका सुंदरी" से ली गई है। बस मैंने इसमें थोड़ा सा "ड्रामा" भी मिला दिया है ;-)

This poem is an ode to the Hibiscus flower, that comes in so many colors, has a short life, and even in that transient life, never fails to attract.
रिमझिम बारिश में भीग रहा,
मैं घूम घूम के झूम रहा,
मेरी पंखुड़ियाँ लहराती,
बूँदें भी मुझ पर थम जाती,
मैं श्वेतवर्ण, मैं स्निग्ध स्पर्श,
मैं क्षण भंगुर, मैं हूँ गुड़हल....
A hibiscus flower is a flame kindled by morning, a passionate declaration of life against the indifferent sky. Its petals, like silken banners, unfurl in radiant surrender to the sun's embrace. A splash of crimson against the green canvas of the world, it is a masterpiece painted with sunlight and dew. More than just a flower, it is a symbol, a siren song that lures the eye and captures the heart.

All of us love to question - our leaders, politicians, governments, which is fine in a healthy democracy, but are we trying to provide any answers at all? If this poem hurts the sentiments of some people – the poet is not at all apologetic.
हाँ चलो, सवाल कर लेते हैं
इतने सालों से सवाल ही तो कर रहे हैं
कुछ और सवाल कर लेते हैं
कुछ सरकार से सवाल कर लेते हैं,
कुछ नेताओं से सवाल कर लेते हैं
सवाल का जवाब तो हमें नहीं आता
हाँ जवाब में सवाल करना खूब है भाता
इसलिए बस सवाल कर लेते हैं

हम सब को सवाल करने का तो खूब शौक है, लेकिन हम जवाब देने से क्यूँ इतना कतरा जाते हैं?

Here is another poem from the Corona / COVID times, this one from the initial days of the lockdown in India in 2020 when the pandemic brought the world to a screeching halt. While a lot of people suffered but at the same time, our cities suddenly started breathing again. Those clean blue skies, quiet roads, no pollution in the air, and the day long bird songs inspired this poem.

Here are a few lines:
आसमान भी साफ और नीला है दिखता इन दिनों
धूल की भी चल रही अब छुट्टियाँ हैं इन दिनों
शाम भी रुकने लगी है एक तसल्ली चाय पर
वक़्त को भी मिल रहा है वक़्त सारा इन दिनों

The episode starts with another short poem, on the quiet and silence:
पत्तों की सरसराहट -
अब सुनने लगी है
पंछी भी अब भोर राग गाने लगे हैं
हवा से सुर मिला के गुनगुनाने लगे हैं

August 20, 2024 बच्चन: है अंधेरी रात पर दीपक जलाना कब मना है / Bachchan: Andhere ka Deepak (Hindi poems)
This episode was first recorded during COVID pandemic, so the first poem serves as a warning message for people to be careful. The title of the poem is – “Mat Nikal” (मत निकल - Don’t go out), a poem written by Sharad Gupta Ji but wrongly recognized as written by Harivansh Rai Bachchan, probably because of its similarity with Agnipath (अग्निपथ). However, every word of the poem is spot-on for the situation during pandemic, like this:
संतुलित व्यवहार कर, बन्द तू किवाड़ कर
घर में बैठ, इतना भी तू ना मचल
मत निकल, मत निकल, मत निकल

Then we read a poem actually written by Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan – Andhere ka Deepak (अंधेरे का दीपक - a lamp in the dark). This is a well known poem of optimism and hope, which gives a message of lighting a lamp however dark one’s time may get. A ray of hope in the face of difficult and changing times. Some hard-hitting lines, such as these:

किन्तु ऐ निर्माण के प्रतिनिधि, तुझे होगा बताना,
जो बसे हैं वे उजड़ते हैं प्रकृति के जड़ नियम से,
पर किसी उजड़े हुए को फिर बसाना कब मना है?
है अँधेरी रात पर दीपक जलाना कब मना है?

An ode to Donkeys - Idhar bhi Gadhe hain, Udhar bhi Gadhe hain!
This is a satirical poem written by Om Prakash Aditya back in the day, always relevant and a reminder of Harishankar Parsai's writings. The poem uses Donkey as a symbol of all that was wrong in our politics and society in general. I have added a couple of my couplets to the original poem, which are relevant in today's time :-) There is also some commentary on how good Donkeys actually are.
इधर भी गधे हैं, उधर भी गधे हैं
जिधर देखता हूं, गधे ही गधे हैं...
घोडों को मिलती नहीं घास देखो

First - Beej or Mitti ka Gahra Andhkar - story of a seed buried deep inside of dark soil, yet comes out in form of a plant, and creates a forest. Second poem - Parvat Pradesh mein Paavas is about the rains on the Himalaya mountain range. It's effect and what it does. We are reading the poem, while explaining the essence of the words used.

While in another episode we speak of a banter between the moon and Champa (Plumeria), here we are reading some random but beautiful lines written by Amrita Pritam in her autobiography "Raseedi Ticket". She speaks about her relationship and view of the Sun (Suraj) and Earth, and their journey.

अमृता प्रीतम अपनी आत्मकथा "रसीदी टिकट" में बड़ी सुंदरता से सूरज, धरती, आसमान की बात करती हैं। उसी का एक छोटा सा टुकड़ा यहाँ है।
