Morning Shot

JANUARY 14, DAY 14

Listen Later

In today’s reading of Tyndale’s OYCSB (with featured content written by the CBT team),

  • The narrative of Scripture zeros in on Joseph’s story. Through January 18, we will read the details of how God administers the future thing He told Abraham in Genesis 15. Abraham’s descendants will be enslaved in a foreign land for four hundred years, but God will visit them afterward, judge the enslaving nation, and bring His people out with great riches.
  • Joseph’s story is not just an interesting historical account. God is tracing the inheritance of the firstborn in Israel’s household and the inheritance of the Seed of Promise. In this multi-layered and complex story of redemption, brokenness, repentance, and reward, God is teaching the Israelites in the wilderness how He acts to sovereignly fulfill what He speaks.
  • Joseph will replace Reuben as the future head of household—he is given the seat of honor at the right hand of the father, the role of the firstborn. Judah will inherit the Seed of Promise. All of the brothers will be brought to their knees and called to submit to faithfulness to God’s word.
