JANUARY 17, DAY 17

Listen Later

In today’s reading of Tyndale’s OYCSB (with featured content written by the CBT team),

  • The future things God tells Abraham in Genesis 15, provide a backdrop for the newly liberated Hebrews in the wilderness—fresh with the lived experience of redemption through the Passover and eye witnesses to the destruction of Egypt’s military power, financial dominance, and world influence.
  • As God catches them up by educating them on the history of His redemptive work and their own heritage as a people of promise, today’s reading reminds them that God led them into their slavery to Egypt just as He is leading them now to possess the land He promised Abraham.
  • Today’s text teaches us that God’s righteousness (the way He administers the saving of sinners who respond to Him by faith) and God’s wrath (the way He punishes wickedness) are revealed through concurrent layers of individual and communal responses to His word.
  • God is not afraid to ask His covenant people to patiently endure His administration of the eras to bring about the saving of a people of faith and the destruction of a people who refuse to bow the knee to Him.
  • Let’s dive into today’s reading!
