In today’s reading of Tyndale’s OYCSB (with featured content written by the CBT team),

  • The main patriarch storyline comes to a close, fast-forwarding to Jacob and Joseph’s deaths. There are six orders of business to which must be tended for the flourishing of the next generations in light of what God promised.
  • Jacob’s burial site demonstrates confidence in God’s faithfulness and submission to His word.
  • Ephraim and Manasseh must be included as Jacob’s sons. Jacob elevates these young men born in Egypt, and he gives them an inheritance in his household.
  • God’s promise to Abraham must be restated and passed on to the next generations.
  • Jacob’s sons must be instructed and organized as tribes in the nation God is establishing.
  • Joseph must reassure his brothers of his forgiveness for the harm they intended.
  • Joseph’s burial site and the timing of his burial will serve as a testimony of faith for future generations.
  • All six of these items of family business will present the opportunity for the flourishing of God’s people even when their trail of slavery comes on them.
  • Let’s dive into today’s reading!
