Jason helps his dad again today on the NativeTalk.net radio podcast to discuss the 566 federally recognized tribes here in America. However, that will soon be changing as the U.S. Senate has just sent a bill to the president which would recognize 6 Virginia tribes enabling them to compete for educational funding, repatriate the remains of their ancestors and bring them back home, as well as provide much needed access to health care for elder tribal members. Today on the NativeTalk.net radio podcast, we discuss this wonderful story, and acknowledge it as an issue of respect in honor of these tribes which are alive and well – surviving and thriving as a rich part of our Native heritage. We hope you feel the same way, and we hope you enjoy listening to the discussion by downloading the full audio file for all the story details.
We also include the latest in our series on learning about the history of Pacific Northwestern Tribes in today’s lesson called “Clever Cooking” (which is the topic Jason chose). We answer questions on where they cooked, what they cooked, and how they did it. How did they boil water if their pots were made of cedar or woven baskets? We believe in learning as much as we can about our ancestors and their ways, and we will continue this series next week with another thrilling lesson & we hope you’ll join us for more stimulating Native Talk Radio. Thank you for listening!
