Today we re-air The Dayroom Club by Patty Prewitt, a play that gives you a look into the day-to-day routine at the Women’s Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Vandalia, MO.  The play also gives us a lesson in the humanity of those that are incarcerated. Although their lives are regulated 24 hours a day, these women still try to find a way to be a part of the important events, sorrowful and joyful occasions of their family and loved ones on the outside. It is, in part, being deprived of that involvement that brings them together as a family behind bars - their bonds of love and friendship built over time. On November 23rd, we will hear from Bev Livingston, founder of Mothers of Incarcerated Sons and Daughters (MISD). A decade ago, Bev Livingston’s son was arrested and incarcerated. Through the process, she learned just how large and overwhelming the criminal justice system could be for the defendant, and also for their families. She formed MISD in 2009. MISD is a 501(c)(3) advocacy and support organization that helps you become your own best advocate if you, or someone you know, is affected by incarceration.  MISD has monthly meetings to provide support.  They can be reached by email at [email protected].
