Two victims were wounded in the leg and the shooter, Eric Bratton was arrested. On April 4th of 2012 Eric was convicted and the jury recommended a sentence of seven years. Former Jackson county Prosecutor and now 16th District Circuit Court Judge Jim Kanatzar ignored the jury's recommendation and instead sentenced Eric Bratton to 64 years. Eric's family and friends question whether he would have gotten such a sentence if his crime had been committed at the Landing Shopping Center in KCMO instead of the Independence Mall. United Transportation Services - Connecting Families With Their Incarcerated Loved Ones No one goes to prison alone, their family is affected in a variety of ways and staying connected with ones family while incarcerated is one of the most important factors in reducing recidivism. Many poor families cannot afford to make the trip to visit their incarcerated loved ones and public transportation is often expensive and doesn't go where they need it to. Prison administrations often make it difficult to visit and prisoners are transferred to facilities far from their families for institutional reasons. Ricky Kidd was convicted of murder in 1996 on the inconsistent testimony and lies of Richard Harris. There was no forensic evidence tying Ricky to the crime. In 2008 Marcus Merrill confessed to doing the crime with Gary Goodspeeds SR and Gary Goodspeeds Jr. Why is Ricky Kidd still behind bars? The confession of Marcus Merrill was that Ricky was not involved was backed up by testimony of Eugene Williams who claimed Marcus and the Goodspeeds planned the crime at his house and Ricky was not there. Richard Harris testified in 2009 that he believes he was mistaken in his original testimony and that Ricky, who was bald at the time could not have been the long haired shooter he saw. The Prosecutor at the time Jim Kanatzer and the police were notified of the new evidence but have refused to act even though the Goodspeeds were on their radar in the beginning. Why? The testimony of Marcus Merrill has been discounted by the prosecutor because Marcus wants a deal.
