hi guys so i've done this um track for you halloween rag by the tail teller club it's quite short i didn't um overdo it i was really just playing around with it and i put a drum track to it which i really like and i think that i'm a bit obsessed at the moment with that sort of um drum rhythm that jazz drum rhythm it's just so uh laid back and i think that's it's the drums that always draw me in actually much more i think than the piano it's a sort of boogie woogie piano um i mean i love my piano of course i do but i quite like a slow relaxed type of jazz but a rag is actually you know quite quick um it really traditionally i think it's 120 bpm i think well i'm don't um don't use that in your exam because i could be wrong um so yeah i really like to kind of put a drum track with the piano the sort of basic um almost it feels very improvised doesn't it a lot of jazz feels very improvised that's why it feels like you're there well like you're actually listening to it and then the other thing that i try and do when i'm putting on my layers is i try not to make them too tight and over processed so it kind of gives you that a little a little bit of a sense that you know you are present in the room which is really really difficult when um you know if you use a lot of processing and you use a lot of our um producer tools as it were and digitally and of course the the problem is that digitally because we're using the digital world to get out there with our music we have to use digital tools to help us achieve that and there's nothing more fantastic really than being in a bar um you know two whiskeys in listening to the groove and it not being so tight but it also being really tight do you know what i mean at the same time but i guess it what i'm saying is you you sort of hanker after the um the sense that it's a human being performing and not a machine and that's sometimes quite difficult when you start processing music and you start using a lot of tools so um i've tried to give that sort of five and i hope i did that a bit anyway so here it is here's my uh tail teleclub version of the halloween rag and i hope you like it a rag for halloween performed by tail teller club

hey guys welcome to jazz baby whoa new show brand new show look i'm going to uh go live i think every day at 4 30. at least for a bit we'll see how it goes i think this is a perfect time for a bit of jazz you know when you've sort of been shopping or you've finished your work you've done all the chores you know the housework the dinner's on in the uh in the crock pot or whatever and you're sort of just having a cup of tea i've got my coffee here and a little bit of a break i thought now 4 30 is quite good for jazz that's my theory anyway so i've only got a couple of tracks for you tonight and one of them is not very jazzy but that's because i'm ill prepared because we literally just set up the live studio it's just thrilling and we're kind of testing things out this is not my first broadcast today um i do a morning show as well at 9 30 which is raw clearance radio which is a little bit different different accent on things but this is my secret favorite but don't tell the others so i've got a jazz blues track it's called jazz blues actually and that's by myself and my band and then i did a jazz version of the swan as you probably know or if you don't you should i'm a cellist and i was a cello teacher for a long time i don't do so much teaching anymore life's taken a different turn but i still do my podcasts and a pianist and the swan is a great suzuki favorite for cellists beginner cellists it's in the suzuki method i think book six and it's more advanced actually it's quite difficult to play so i really started this backing track as a a tool i guess you'd call it a jazz tool to enable my students to have something to play along to to keep to keep things regular as they say as the doctor said to the um the old lady who was having trouble down the uh the root of the oh where am i going just stop it stop it zarya okay so now then what's the next one tears by vapor punk ah now vapour punk is my robot one of my robots from uh ttc telltale cup and he she is sort of an undisclosed gender and i didn't i wanted a figure a performer a musician that was neither female or male and really that that didn't matter at all but um is definitely a robot so it takes on this sort of very robotic music and speaks in this kind of funny voice and it's particularly directed at children but what's happened actually is vapour punk's getting a bit of an older audience so we just released a single it's not our first but it's our first by vapor punk if that makes sense so i've stuck this on the end here it's called tears and it's our christmas track so you're going to be hearing a lot of it actually so i hope you enjoy these three tracks and i hope you've got your nice cuppa and you've got your feet up have you got a gout stool apparently that's the thing i had no idea it's a little it looks quite small you just put one foot in it because you know the difference between gout and arthritis well the difference in sensation is that arthritis is um to you would feel that symmetrically on you know both sides of your body but gout is usually just one side how interesting is that i am filled with um nursing information my mother actually always brings me before the doctor and i give her the run down the low down according to my years of wisdom being a witch my couple of ex-husbands have called me that um so anyway i'll stop waffling on here goes with um the the repertoire for the for today but there'll be more tomorrow i'll start looking for stuff because i quite enjoyed this a little show from raw clarence and it was a pleasure and i hope you're back tomorrow

Working on the tech and my new mic, and finally a live recording! Hope it works ok.

are we live do you know what darlings i've had the worst couple of hours and i've missed lunch too all because i couldn't figure out how to install my microphone in my brand new sparkly jazz studio and you know what it was yes i did try and unplug it and plug it back in again and that did help because the thing with computers is they reset don't they all the time and when you're using audio equipment it um they they're not human beings these machines obviously not and they don't understand that you've plugged something new in anyway it wasn't that it was just it was another button something to do with channels and all that stuff malarkey oh absolutely horrendous afternoon so far so i'm going to just give you a little introduction actually to the jazz baby um broadcast now we've gone live what live radio means for me is um nerve-wracking hours slaving over just making sure all the cables are connected but it also means you can get a real vibe i think for um it's sort of an intimate chat i guess and i really wanted to do that and it's um i think it's just lovely it really makes me feel very connected anyway so i'm going to you know once or twice a day um just go live and say hello and really i guess upload a few of my um juicy chords i play juicy chords every day and i'm not i wasn't born a jazz musician i've come to it later in life so i'm exploring the possibilities and the wonderful wonderful archives of jazz music and i'm sourcing material jazz books things set in jazz times i think that's quite interesting isn't it so i've got a story a novel read by um volunteers actually at librivox so we'll be sharing that as well so anyway really i suppose this is just an experiment to see if my microphone works but this is going to be in the archives as well because what we are doing is building a huge jazz library um here at telltale kids and telltale club and what that enables us to do is not to lose really important material so i've got access to a wonderful source of library 78s with original jazz music and blues music and we'll be featuring lots of that as well for now though i'm going to play you a jazz blues track that i did myself with my band and i hope you enjoy it and i'll be back later i'm never going far away and i think we've got a lot going on for christmas so i'm a bit excited about that so anyway have a listen to my track jazz blues and see what you think and remember you're always welcome to pop by and i've got i've got this chat box here and i think you can talk to me when i'm online which would be rather fun wouldn't it um don't ask me anything too technical and you know if i go offline it's because i've fallen off my chair because i've been stressed out or something anyway here's a bit of jazz blues from the telltale club and i hope you like it
