Davina from Davina and The Vagabonds swung through the Afternoon Cruise to talk about the upcoming show for the Vagabonds. Davina also mentioned how the pandemic has changed their goals and life outlook.

To play free Jazz, you have to monitor what your fellow musicians are doing. So says Dave power, the percussionist of Buddhist Priest, along with bassist Cody McKinney and keyboardist Dean Granros. Buddhist Priest performs 6 till 8:30 at Icehouse in Minneapolis on June 23. When Power talked with Phil Nusbaum, Dave first addressed how the group kicks off tunes.

They’re calling themselves the Will Aldrich quintet, with Will and Gabe Hartnett playing saxophones, Rafi Karpowitz on the piano, Callum Schultz on the bass, and drummer Ataa Mensah. The group’s flair for both reimagining and composing jazz led it to an award at the Eau Claire Jazz festival. The Quintet’s next appearance is at the Metronome in Saint Paul, Wednesday June 21 at 8PM. When Phil Nusbaum got together with Will Aldrich, Will addressed the group’s treatment of Wayne Shorter’s Speak No Evil.
