For the first time in awhile, we aren’t forecasting a major snow event. The week ahead looks rather benign, with temperatures even rising to springlike levels for a time. In our weather education segment, we discuss what the dry slot is.

The area received a widespread 3”-6” of snow through the course of the day today. There is more moisture that will likely affect the region tomorrow. We’ll let you know what areas got the most and how much more to expect. We also take a look at the upcoming weekend.

A train of weak low pressure systems is going to move up the coast the next couple of days. This will result in two rounds of accumulating snowfall and a messy mix in between. We’ll let you know how much you’re going to get and when it will all be over.

Yesterday’s storm brought rain, fog, and mild temperatures to the region, with minimal icing. In our weather education segment we discuss why fog results in snow melting so rapidly. We then discuss a heavy accumulating snowfall expected on Thursday.

A storm near the region tonight could give the area some freezing rain. A similar system will affect us on Thursday, but subtle differences may make this a snow maker instead. We also analyze how the pattern has changed and what this lack of blocking is going to mean.

The pattern that we’re in is going to continue for the first half of this week. Low level cold air, weak lows, and warm air aloft will produce freezing rain. The most significant icing could come with a system Monday night. Cold air becomes more entrenched during the midweek, and snow is possible Thursday.

An area of freezing rain is expected to develop overnight tonight with a weak low offshore and lots of dry air aloft. The block has broken down and storms will be free to pass to our west this week. Lots of low-level cold air will reside just to our north and potentially turn some of these warm track systems to produce freezing rain.

Arctic high pressure to our north and a southwest flow aloft are going to butt heads the next few days. Light overrunning precipitation is expected later tomorrow and Sunday morning. A long duration of freezing drizzle may occur until later Monday night when a strong system affects us. This could become a heavy freezing rain or sleet event. I’ll break down what the most likely scenario is.

A low pressure system is going to go to our south tonight and bring us an accumulating snowfall. Bitterly cold air takes over for Friday and Saturday. Model mayhem abounds for Sunday with the evolution of another possible snow event.
