A jazzy cover from The Music Man and stories of love and marriage
During this show I referenced a line from War and Peace by Tolstoy. A broadway show was written around the love story of Natasha and Pierre and this song Dust and Ashes immortalized the line I shared.
"They say we are asleep until we fall in love".
Pierre was married to a socialite who was openly cheating on him. Natasha was engaged to a man who had gone to fight in the war and while he was away she was seduced by an evil person.
Natasha and Pierre were two broken people who found love and came together in one of the most passionate love stories in literature.
The show written by Dave Malloy used music to depict the story. He said about this line,
"This is one of the most famous quotes from War & Peace, but it actually doesn’t come from this section of the novel, or even from any of Comet’s characters; it is said by Denisov, a military officer, as he is writing a love letter, very early in the novel (Vol. 1, Pt. 2, Ch. 4): “‘You see, my fwiend,’ he said, ‘we sleep when we don’t love. We are childwen of the dust … but one falls in love and one is a God, one is pua’ as on the first day of cweation… .”
