In this deeply powerful episode of Jenny’s Safe Space, we sit down with Dale Walsh, a coach, advocate, and living proof that recovery is always an option.
Nearly 50 years ago, Dale was diagnosed with Schizophrenia after a 13-week hospitalization that began during his time at Dartmouth College. Over the next several years, he experienced nine hospitalizations and intense struggles with psychosis.
But Dale’s story didn’t end there.
He rebuilt his life, returned to school at Fairleigh Dickinson University, graduated magna cum laude in English Literature, and has now been psychosis-free for 34 years.
Today, Dale helps families navigate the emotional challenges of supporting loved ones living with schizophrenia. Through his LIVELOVE method — Learn, Integrate, Validate, Explore, Listen, Observe, Value, Express — he teaches families how to communicate better, reduce conflict, and reclaim their own sense of peace.
In this episode, we explore:
• Dale’s extraordinary 50-year mental health journey
• What schizophrenia really feels like from the inside out
• Why families are often the forgotten victims of mental illness
• How better communication can transform relationships
• The powerful belief that recovery is always possible
This conversation is honest, compassionate, and deeply human.
