Dad Without Borders

Jeremy - Being Dad in Canada's Adventure Capital and Sleeping as a Family

Listen Later

It's another content rich show with two parts:
Part 1 insightful conversation with another special guest Dad
Part 2 the debrief with professional feedback provided by one of our in-house specialists
Part 1: Location, location, location. Living in Squamish, Canada's climbing mecca in the Sea to Sky corridor, just north of Vancouver, means that Jeremy gets to climb 3 or 4 times a week. Not bad for a full time Dad that works as a teacher. Nestled between the Coastal Mountains and the Pacific Ocean with easy access to endless mountain and ocean pursuits, this is prime real estate which means a busy life to pay the bills and keep up with the family while Jeremy and his wife-ish person Mandoline, work conflicting schedules. Sometimes.
As more people escape the city in search of a better quality of life, the lure of the mountains means a sea of newcomers which has increased the cost of living. Jeremy reflects on the question of affordability and he expresses gratitude that they can juggle the life they have to create a great experience for their young daughter while also pursuing their passions.
Topics include: falling into parenting without a plan; learning to let go of expectations; balancing family life with a busy schedule; affordability as the cost of living increases; sleeping as a family (the dog is invited too); early morning training rituals; amongst other things...
Part 2: An educated discussion with Clinical Social Worker Catherine Williams about the essential topic for parents with babies and young children - sleep!
