Jersey Guy Sports

Welcome to Jersey Guy Sports, your sports talk home for the Yankees, Giants, Rangers and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.   I’m your host Don.  Thanks for listening.   Today I’ll be discussing:

• Rutgers basketball loses 68-61 to an excellent Princeton team on opening night in Trenton.  Princeton looked like the Sweet 16 team they were last year, and Rutgers looked like a team adjusting to new players and to a new style.  It was a good early test for Rutgers, who showed fight, but ultimately allowed too many 3s, and missed too many 3s of their own.

Welcome to Jersey Guy Sports, your sports talk home for the Yankees, Giants, Rangers and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.   I’m your host Don.  Thanks for listening.   Today I’ll be discussing:

• The Giants need to draft a quarterback in the 2024 draft.
• Even before his knee injury, Jones’ inaccuracy and his inability to remain healthy were reason enough for the Giants to select a real franchise QB.

Welcome to Jersey Guy Sports, your sports talk home for the Yankees, Giants, Rangers and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.   I’m your host Don.  Thanks for listening.   Today I’ll be discussing:

• After a year of hope, the Giants are once again a dumpster fire after losing to the lowly Raiders 30-6.
• The Giants lost Daniel Jones to a knee injury, got sacked 8 times, lost Evan Neil to another injury, dropped passes, and gave up 24 points to the 3-6 Raiders - in the first half!  Other than that, they looked great …

Welcome to Jersey Guy Sports, your sports talk home for the Yankees, Giants, Rangers and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.   I’m your host Don.  Thanks for listening.   Today I’ll be discussing:

• Rutgers played #1 Ohio State tough but lost 35-16, as yet another critical Gavin Wimastt pick-6 turned the game in the 2nd half.  Rutgers D was valiant yet again, and Rutgers out-gained, out rushed, and often outplayed the #1 team, but Wimsatt and red zone efficiency ultimately doomed Rutgers. Rutgers can point to a lot of positive things this game.  I detail them all.

• Giants lose in pathetic fashion in OT to the Jets 13-10, with 3rd string QB Tommy Davito not allowed to throw the ball.  In a game that featured the most punts in NFL history since 2003, a crucial Gano missed field goal, and some of the worst football seen in recent memory, the Giants proved that they are even worse than the Jets.

Welcome to Jersey Guy Sports, your sports talk home for the Yankees, Giants, Rangers and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.   I’m your host Don.  Thanks for listening.   Today I’ll be discussing:

• NY Rangers early season assessment (very early). The Rangers have gotten off to a good start so far.   Though it's too early to make full assessments, faceoffs are improved, there is less shuffling of the lines, and good starts by Panarin and others bodes well for this year's team.

Welcome to Jersey Guy Sports, your sports talk home for the Yankees, Giants, Rangers and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.   I’m your host Don.  Thanks for listening.   Today I’ll be discussing:

• The Giants beat Washington for their 2nd win of the year with inspired defensive and QB play.  Tyrod Taylor showed us again what we have been missing with Daniel Jones (pocket awareness and accuracy), and the defense stood tall against Washington.   I have 3 quick takes I discuss:
  1. It’s clear as day to me that the Giants need to find a way to get a better QB in here
  2. There might be some hope for this defense after a 2nd straight week of good performance (which followed 5 bad weeks)
  3. Don’t take too much away from this 1 game, we always beat Washington.

• Rutgers moves to 6-2 with a 31-14 road win over Indiana.  Rutgers is now bowl eligible for the first time since 2014 and sign of progress are evident in the Schiano 2.0 era.

Welcome to Jersey Guy Sports, your sports talk home for the Yankees, Giants, Rangers and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.   I’m your host Don.  Thanks for listening.   Today I’ll be discussing:

• Yankees off-season hot stove talk. Who will the Yankees tender by 11/18?  Who should they tender a contract to?  What will Hal say to the fans in his upcoming talk?  Should we believe what he says?  (Spoiler:  No)
