I on the show today and we're going to talk about, I think a really important topic, we're gonna talk about faith and economics
0:14
and nobody can accuse us of not fearlessly going for people are afraid to try.
0:19
That's right. You know, because when you start talking about money, people get nervous. I remember
0:24
when I was pastoring. And you've probably had this experience teamwork that, you know, you can preach about almost anything else in your preaching. But as soon as you start preaching about money, you're meddling and there's a difference between preaching and meddling.
0:34
That's right. And we can be honest, even we get nervous when we talk about money. Yeah, no,
0:39
I remember, it's kind of dereliction of duty if you don't like talk about stewardship or something once a year at least, right. Because yeah, you know, but it's something that's just so uncomfortable for me and a lot of people so I would always in this is the old preacher trek, right. And I know that I'm not the only one that does this, is instead of like the stewardship sermon, or whatever, right, which is usually like the, you know, y'all better tithe kind of thing. I'd have like the stewardship series. And so you know, the first, the first Sunday would be stewardship of the environment, stewardship of our faith stewardship of this event. And then the last Sunday is courses, you know, stewardship of money. But I was just trying to soften the blow, right, which is pure cowardice, actually. Not that those other things aren't important, but the reason why we were talking about it, because I didn't want to talk about what I needed to talk about, because, you know, it's uncomfortable.
1:33
Yeah, man, it's hard to talk about money. So we're gonna, we're gonna jump into that topic today. And so we hope you enjoy we might you might be pushed a little, you might be stretched. But don't worry, we are as well have enjoyed.
1:55
Yeah, Rex, when we talk about money, it is, you know, it can make people uncomfortable. And, and yeah, it can feel like, Hey, why are we talking about this issue? You know, let's talk about other issues, maybe sin issues, all of these things. But what's interesting is, when you look at scripture, there's over 2000 passages totally talk about money or possession. That's totally true. And, and so it seems to be a really big issue in Scripture. God has something to say to us about money, how we approach money, how we use money, how we get money, everything, and and even beyond that, how we desire money.
2:43
You know, I think that that, actually, the desire thing is probably a good phrase to use in this, I found that two of the things that are just really difficult to talk about in church context, right, yeah, our money and sex. Right. And honestly, I think there's a similar reason, because both of those things kind of, you know, touch, I don't know, touch us in an intimate manner, you know, the way we spend our money, what we spend our money on, you know, what we desire, what we don't wear, you know, you the old saw when people used to actually have checkbooks, which, you know, most people don't anymore, but
3:22
right when they did, I referenced that in class yesterday, I was like bank books and nearly exactly, the app on your right,
3:29
right. But you know, I'm still the principal, I guess, holds as you can tell a lot about people's priorities simply by just looking at, at how they're spending their money. Right. Right. And so it, it really hits us kind of where we live, and it's really persona
