Appropriately, Jesus’ first miracle takes place in a scene of celebration. In some sense, the wedding feast relates to Messianic themes and imagery. While Mary focuses on the immediate need for wine, Jesus’ actions reveal something more profound is happening—it’s the coming of the new age. Interestingly, Jesus’ first miracle says something about the new age that he is introducing—it’s an age that restores and brings joy to those who participate.
