Premeditated sin (I am guilty - it was anger)... intentional and premeditated nature of wrongdoing. In biblical context, plotting evil is often associated with the wicked, as seen in Psalm 36:4, where the wicked devise mischief on their beds. The heart's intent is crucial in Scripture, as seen in Jeremiah 17:9, which describes the heart as deceitful. The cultural context of ancient Israel emphasized community harmony, and plotting evil would disrupt societal peace. This phrase warns against the internal deliberation of sin, which contrasts with the call to meditate on God's law (Psalm 1:2).
The term "schemer" suggests a person who is not only involved in evil but is also known for it, impacting their standing in the community (or the home...in private...). This aligns with the broader biblical theme that one's actions and intentions will ultimately be revealed and judged, as seen in Ecclesiastes 12:14. The warning here is clear: those who engage in deceitful planning will be recognized and remembered for their wrongdoing, contrasting with the righteous who are called to be peacemakers (Matthew 5:9).
