It is a mere casting of pearls before swine (Matthew 7:6) to speak to such a man of high aims, righteous motives, self-sacrifice (Proverbs 9:8). He will despise the wisdom of thy words. He cannot enter into the meaning of words of wisdom; he has no appetite for them, he cannot assimilate them; and in his self-satisfied dulness he feels for them nothing but contempt.

Jesus exemplified perfect self-control, even when provoked, demonstrating how believers should respond to anger-inducing situations (1 Peter 2:23). This proverb underscores the importance of self-discipline in maintaining spiritual integrity and relational harmony.

When our wall of defense is down and we have no self-control, we do damage. That damage hurts those we love. When they come at us for understanding and repentence, we build a wall of protection to shut them out because our addiction or behavior is where we feel safe. Our lack of self-control is our guiding light. Our safe haven. Our hurtful behavior keeps us locked up in our sin walls because we are comfortable there. Isolated. Satan loves that.
