John the Baptist had the privilege of being the herald of Christ, but after being locked away in prison, he struggled with doubt and sent his disciples to see if Christ was truly the Messiah. Jesus responded by giving evidence of His power and by pointing John to the assurance of Scripture. In the aftermath of that, Jesus reassures the crowd before Him of John's High Position as a Prophet, but He also reveals the nature of true greatness as well as the fickleness of unbelievers.
