Jesus Name News

Merry Christmas to all - as Santa would say! This week we go back to the origins of Santa Claus and describe why we SHOULD teach our children about Santa Claus! Our story begins in a Turkish village about 1700 years ago, and it is a story that our children deserve to know about the beloved Christmas figure. We remove the commercialism of his name and talk about just the man - Saint Nicholas. It's a story that you don't want to miss out.

This week, we take a church-y route. We typically delve into various issues and ideas about Christianity. However, we took a break from the debate and deliver a sermon on the glory of Jesus and the wonder of the Messiah. During this season, let us not forget Who it is that gives us life and sustains us. Let us remember that His first coming met every criteria needed to be our Savior, and His second coming is imminent.

Continuing with our Christmas theme, we put on our wide-brimmed hats and go digging for the history of and the people surrounding Jesus' birth. If you have not dug into the history behind Jesus, you are missing out. There is a beautiful tapestry weaved during this period of history that allows us to see the dominoes fall into place for the coming Messiah. We'll also have some answers as to who these wise men were that visited Jesus and the approximate date of Jesus' birth!

As we enter the most wonderful time of the year, we turn a page to look at Hanukkah. What is it? How did it start? Hanukkah's history is a truly miraculous and interesting. We trace the theology and ideas back, and we look at the the period of silence from God. Just as God kept the lamp in the Temple burning, we hope that this episode brings you insight and new reverence to the holiday.

On this special episode of the Jesus Name News Podcast, we continue to grapple with the concept of purgatory. Is it as final as we think, and does it actually have a purpose besides sending the dead there to figure out where they want to spend eternity? We know the common ideas of what purgatory is and is not, but how close is it to Abraham's Bosom? Why does Jesus refer to Abraham's Bosom, and where does that terminology come from?

Yes, we know that spooky szn is over, but we have at least two more "dark" episodes in us! This week we dive into the idea of reprobate. It's way more involved than just blasphemy of the Holy Spirit and the typical sins that are associated with it. In fact, the idea of reprobate prompted us to go all the way back to the Old Testament and the practice of metallurgy. This episode might make you rethink what a reprobate is and why it happens.

This week is the culmination of all things frightening! No tricks and all treats. We take on Halloween and see what level of truth there is to the popular stories and ideas surrounding Halloween. We are less worried about fun size candy bars versus full size candy bars and more worried about the truth of Halloween. Why does it even exist? We'll dig into it like a 7 year old digs into his bucket of candy on Halloween night!
