Hey folks…this week we’ll be continuing our exploration of the enduring wisdom we find in the Jesus stories. I realize that subject line could sound like a set for a call to civil disobedience, which is not quite where I’m headed. To be more forthcoming, we’ll be unpacking the Jesus one (or two) liners about how to respond if the taxman wants your shirt or if you feel like you are getting treated like a beast of burden by your overlord. Along the way, we may well discover that some basic human experiences haven’t changed all that much since the first century, and that our imaginations still sometimes need a nudge to help us think creatively (rather than destructively) about how to push back in such situations.
Location: We’ll be at Creative Manitoba (245 McDermot Avenue, 4th floor) these days. Check the web site for more details. Signs will be out, coffee will be on by about 10:30.
Kids Table – The folks that lead our littles met last week, so just a continued “heads up” to parents that a few more details about how we will be attending to keeping our young ones accounted for in their comings and goings, as well as a couple of other general matters, will be forthcoming.
Housekeeping – To those that responded to last week’s update on our finances, thank you! Cash is still tight, so if you are able to participate in our life together by donating, now would be a good time. You can do that on Sunday mornings on location by cash, cheque or electronically through our debit machine, or on our website by clicking the “giving” tab. Gifts of over $10.00 will receive a charitable donation tax deductible receipt after the end of the calendar year.
Hold The Date – we’re planning on having our annual Christmas gathering on Sunday evening, December 23rd. We won’t meet that morning, so make a note and plan to come for a feast of several sorts, including good things to eat.
We’ll see you on Sunday.
Peace,
Tim Plett
