Yesterday, we looked at the crucifixion of Jesus on the cross at Calvary. We looked at it then as we won’t be having a Good Friday service, and on Easter Sunday we want to focus on the resurrection and the new life that we can have through Jesus. The crucifixion was necessary in order to deal with our sin. Jesus was selfless as he sacrificed himself so that we could be forgiven and have the new life by the Holy Spirit living within us. On the cross, Jesus spoke seven times, if all the sayings recorded by the different gospel writers are put together. We considered them under the following headings: 1. Forgiveness (Luke 23:34) 2. Salvation (Luke 23:43) 3. Relationship (John 19:25-27) 4. Abandonment (Matthew 27:45-46 and Mark 15:34) 5. Prophecy (John 19:28-29) 6. Sacrifice (John 19:30) 7. Committal (Luke 23:46)
