This podcast in an interview between Józefa Fawcett and Michiel Tolman talking about Bildung and his work with Die Bildung Academie.

Michiel started Die Bildung Academie with others who felt university education was missing something related to personal development and societal issues. The Academie focuses on 21st century Bildung principles to develop students holistically beyond just academic skills. The first Bildung programme developed in 2015 was successful, leading to the full establishment of Die Bildung Academie. Michiel works with teachers and institutions to integrate Bildung concepts and understand today's students and desired graduate skills.

🎤 The concept of "commonity" - a community of people who serve a common purpose or resource. It relates to overcoming ego and complexity to work towards shared goals.

🎤 How commonity connects to the concept of Bildung (self-cultivation) through doing meaningful things together and empowering all voices.

🎤 Examples such as children's parliaments in India where all get an equal voice in local decision making.

🎤 The roots of commonity are traced back to traditional village governance systems where the community would collectively care for resources. Reclaiming this is proposed as a way forward.

Dr Ginie Servant-Miklos is an Assistant Professor, at the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences in Rotterdam. She spearheads the Bildung Climate School which runs a 9-week educational programme bringing together vocational, applied sciences, and university students around themes of sustainability and Bildung. Ginie talks about how the two days at the event has endorsed her views and work around Bildung.

Mindset and Resilience in Ukraine

As a co-founder of the Ukrainian Bildung Network Elena Tochillina has dedicated 6 months to the field research of the folk high schools approaches in Denmark to integrate them into the Ukrainian systems.As a coach and consultant, Elena provides a deep insight into human and organisational systems, finding healthy and aligned way for them to function drawing expertise from communications, mental health and life coaching, business model design, strategy and marketing. This promises to be the first of many podcasts we will do together to explore in some depth, the relationship between mental health and Bildung.
