  • A somewhat forgotten picture of true completeness
This song is me going back to my roots a bit. Some classic Led Zeppelin style blues/rock. The title of this song “A somewhat forgotten picture of true completeness” is actually very important to me. It’s a phrase that stems back to my early childhood which recently came into the present with a bang and reminded me of something I failed to remember. It reminded me “who I was”.

  • A girl named Puff - (take 2)
This is a second take version of my 2019 release "A girl named Puff". We've redone some of the riffing and remixed the song in this remake of sorts which was done for a documentary I'm a part of right now.
I should point out that I didn't do a liner note for the original version in June of 2019. I have to laugh because I caught a ton of flak for the song title. Mostly from mom’s on the boards who thought it was a drug reference of some kind. Look mom’s your kids like my music, and I’m about as wholesome entertainment as it gets these days, cut me some slack. For god’s sake all I do in my off time is cook and garden. I’m like Martha Stewart with a guitar. So here’s my liner note… Hopefully this time around “Mom’s against Jeff Fiorentino” (MAJF) will chill-out a little.

  • I want to k*ll Jeff Fiorentino
This rather sweet sounding song is called “I want to Kill Jeff Fiorentino”. I know it’s a little ironic based on the music but I do that from time to time. I think the story behind the title will clear up the irony confusion for you, and I think the cover-art will make sense as well. First off for any new fans there have been many people over the years that have wanted to metaphorically “kill me”. Most of the time it’s guitar players who as a lot typically have a dark sense of humor. I did a song in 2013 called “Kill Jeff Fiorentino”, not to be confused with this song. It was quite popular and in that song’s case it was a guitarist who said and I quote “Jeff Fiorentino makes you want to burn your guitar and never play it again, someone should kill him!” I wasn’t overly offended by it but I must admit I hoped no one took him seriously.

  • Smashing some pumpkins
This is "Smashing some pumpkins". The song is of course very Smashing Pumpkins inspired in basic sound and vibe. I think the title is probably pretty self-explanatory, but there is of course a story. I've been listening to a lot of older stuff lately and the Smashing Pumpkins are on my list. I have this demo version of their song "Drown" which I really like. It has a vibe to it, but all of their songs have some sort of a soundscape going on with them. I enjoy recording soundscapes but with the Pumpkins the guitars are driven by super-charged chorusing and vibrato effects that offer a certain spin to the sound. I've done some of that with this track which I think is very Pumpkins in general mood and as I said vibe. I've done this intentionally but I have injected myself into it as well. Most of my following is well aware that Nicole Fiorentino was the bassist in Smashing Pumpkins for some time, while of course she's my favorite sister as you all know and remind me often, I never really gave The Smashing Pumpkins much of a listen. I regret that because the music is very inspired, and I've gained some endless ideas for new non-Pumpkins related soundscapes I can compose in the future..
So if you're into "Smashing Pumpkins" or just into "Jeff Fiorentino", or any Fiorentino for that matter, we're all pretty awesome we think lol.. I hope you enjoy the track.... and as always CRANK IT UP!!!!! I do however highly recommend a good set of headphones for this one to take full advantage of the wide stereo sound. Cheers.... and stay safe out there... i.e. "Stay the FK home!!" :)

  • Something else
Over the past few years my career has taken some strange turns. For example this releasing songs to the internet which I catch a little flak for from some of my peers is supposed to be for fun, and so I can continue teaching on some level by answering questions about the songs etc. I'm technically not supposed to have a forward facing career in the first place. I have a contract with Warner that limits my ability to do that, and they're always none too pleases when a release a song and it becomes a hit of any kind. LOL... I call it the deal I signed with the devil. I don't get to be a rock-star, though I never wanted to be anyway. I just wanted to write songs. But on some level in a small niche community of guitar freaks that's kind of back-fired a bit. My career has become "Something else" on all levels in fact. I'm not just a clean-up session guy for Warner, now I'm working with indie filmmakers and TV pilot producers looking for a unique musical element to their show. Shows like "Killing Eve" have inspired this even more.
The thing is everyone thinks Hollywood is shut-down for the lockdown, but it's not!! Believe me it's not. Everyone is bored, and I've been here since the mid 90's. Long enough to know when Hollywood gets bored crazy things happen. Everyone is still working on stuff from home, or in the case of one producer friend of mine actually renting small warehouses to work out of that are exempt from the lockdown rules. Shows are being created, planned, and even cast in many cases. That being said, the changes continue for me as well here in "Bored Hollywood". I'm currently recording with vocalists and other session friends doing what I call "Killing Eve" style "Artistic representations of rock" (*or ARR as we all call it, said like a pirate of course*). I've got one friend just having me record sound-bites so he can use them when he needs them. It's almost busy-work in a way. My point is I'm not really sure where it's all heading for me or any of us for that matter. "Bored Hollywood" is a dangerous Hollywood. That much we all agree on here. Some of it I like, and some of it I'm horribly uncomfortable with. I do know what my career "was" and has been over the past 24 years. But one thing is becoming increasingly clear,,,, right now....it's definitely "Something else"!!
With that, this song is called (rather obviously) "Something else".... And I'll tell you it's not just me. This changing/bored Hollywood and the future of our careers is a big topic among my circle of friends right now. Some are actors, some are producers, some are executives, and some are musicians, but ALL are trying to figure out an answer to the same question. So since I'm part of "Bored Hollywood" I wrote and recorded this what I call "Hollywood Epic Guitar Rock Piece". I think it would make a great opener theme to a TV show. You know maybe one currently in production in a secret warehouse in Van Nuys.. LOL.. Either way, I'm sure you guys will eat it up.
Someday when I retire to a villa in Tuscany (*which is the plan btw*), I'll write a book. Nobody will know exactly who I was in the beginning of it, but by the end they'll figure out quickly that I wasn't just some schmuck who released some songs to the internet. More importantly it'll be a hilarious tale of a guy who got off a plane in the 90's with nothing, and somehow managed to get himself into what we all call "The fine mess". That mess of course is "Hollywood" and all its silliness. But when I think back on it all as I have been lately, I think if I never got on that plane and I could have known, I would have been very sad to have missed out on the "mess". --- cheers...
Enjoy.... and as always... CRANK IT UP!!!!

  • Soulmate-gate
With my song titles there's always speculation on the subscriber guitar boards out there. Fact is I enjoy reading it, it's way off the mark usually but still entertaining as I drink my morning coffee. At the end of the day the song's title "Soulmate-gate" means what you want it to mean when paired with the cover-art. Hint to the speculators, the cover-art is important with this one. But you all know it's never really that simple with me. The titles always have a specific meaning, and in some cases a message attached. This title has both.
This title is about a missed opportunity. One of life's little moments in time that I'll always look back on and wonder "what-if". Plainly put this is a missed opportunity for myself and someone very special to connect. I'm saddened that neither of us ever made an attempt. I'm sure we each had our reasons at the various times we were supposed to connect. But in the end after watching it all play out like a spectator in the stands I have to wonder if those reasons were worth the loss off the missed opportunity. -- Cheers (updated 9/10/2020)
For the music side, "Soulmate-gate" is a remake of what was an interpretive version of White Lion's "When the children cry" I did back in 2008 for a now rather famous among JFRocks fans and guitar freaks guitar lesson. This is track is actually an interpretive version of THAT track. However this version is a bit more structured and orchestrated with lots of guitar volume swell harmonies during the later two chorus sections. This version is still very abstract though, so I don't believe it'll be a mainstream hit, However I do believe my cult guitar following will eat it for lunch, dinner, and have the leftovers for breakfast the next morning. There's a lot of epic MXR flange going on with the guitar tone and that's always popular with that crowd. The riffing itself again is interpretive. Meaning it's an embellishment but an almost artsy embellishment of the main theme of the "When the children cry" song it's based on. These are always good exercises for artists of any kind to partake in because they help to expand your view of things. In the case of composers like myself it's a way for us to dig deeper into the songs we know and find other worlds living within them. Either way even if you just learn it, it's a great example I think of taking a simple strummy-dummy chord pattern as my teacher used to all them and making it into much more.
Enjoy the song guitar freaks and JFRocks.com fans.... and as always, CRANK IT UP!!! The louder the better for this one, and I strongly suggest a good set of headphones to get the full stereo vibe happening.

  • Carbon
"Carbon" is what I like to call an epic guitar rocker. This track has a mix of neo-classical, Hard Rock, and an infectious chorus with a killer almost uplifting melody to it. Originally written and produced in partial form back in 2018, this is a full version, a re-done, re-recorded, re-vamped version that's far superior to its predecessor. This track is well worth blowing some speakers over... (please don't bill me for those),,, DO NOT let the soft intro fool you. It's just the intro!
As for the title "Carbon". Well that's kind of deep and difficult to explain, I tend to get a little philosophical with things I'm afraid. But I don't want any of my longtime fans to freak out. I know you guys all know that the titles of my songs are a good way to gauge my mood and how life is going for me since I don't typically share very much. So no worries, "Carbon" is not representing anything negative. So there's no need to post on the boards to send patrol to Santa Monica. However... the title does have meaning. It's actually a fairly positive meaning. I think it's probably better if you just give it whatever meaning you want. That being said... Don't sweat the title. I'm doing well right now... Making some new friends online during the Coronavirus crap-storm, writing some music, and so on... cheers
I hope you all enjoy the track. As always CRANK IT UP!!!! *Tip* A good set of headphones will actually serve you well with this one..

  • Are you listening
This is "Are you listening" (well, are you?) - This is a total remake of a track I did many years ago back in 2012 for a British filmmaker. I've redone the song in its entirety for a TV project I'm currently a part of. Admittedly I'm getting a little bored with this coronavirus lock-down stuff, but it has afforded me the luxury of working a bit more slowly than usual to produce what I think are some slightly more refined songs. Even hard rock like this song can be fine tuned, where as normally I wouldn't have the time. Everyone who does what I do has the pipe-dream of a producer saying to them, "oh we have plenty of money, take your time.". (Yeah, that never happens folks.) Which in the form of a blessing in disguise is a little bit of what the corona lock-down is allowing for. I'm certainly NOT saying the coronavirus is a dream come true for me or anyone by any means, but I am saying it does have its benefits in certain creative areas.
The song's title is something many of you may interpret backward. To explain, a friend of mine said to her fans about a week ago on Twitter, "Are you listening?" She sent me a DM about it as it seemed to her as if nobody was listening to her music. In her defense the lock-down should in theory put everyone at home with nothing to do but listen to music after all! My advice to her was simple, and it may help some of you as well. People are always listening.. we never know who unless they tell us of course, but that's of no real concern, and we shouldn't as artists care one way or the other. It's easy for us to forget this especially if we get caught up in the hoopla of a given song that's gone viral or is a hit in some way. Ego is the flaw in the plan, and sometimes it gets in the way of real happiness. Something I've learned being in Los Angeles and working in the industry for over 25 years is there is no such thing as "celebrity" or even "popularity". There is only "people". We're all just creative people doing our thing. Our music is a part of us, what many fail to realize is our songs are a reflection of our given mood at the time of its creation. Sometimes we're actors, called upon to create a mood that we may not be in at the time or maybe have never experienced. So we create a false reality in our minds to be able to convey the message through the music. Other times as with actors it's all too real and it's not acting at all. The reality is composers like me, or maybe you, (and her) compose music for OURSELVES and share it with others, not the other way around. It's something we're compelled to do. Speaking personally I have to do it, I would do it even if it wasn't my job and I did it long before it was. I wrote my first song at age 9, I used to entertain the neighborhood kids at 5 years old with my guitar. I only knew 2 chords, Em and G, but boy could I use them, and the little girl across the way thought I was hot shit, which wasn't too bad either. All kidding aside, my very important point to all of you is it doesn't matter if anyone is listening to your music! The real question is,,, "Are you listening?"
