A catastrophic flash flood struck Kerrville, Texas, leaving behind widespread devastation and a rising death toll. ABC News correspondent Jim Ryan reported from the scene, describing the river still running high, though less violently than three days prior. The flood uprooted massive trees and swept away vehicles, buildings, entire campgrounds, and tragically, many people.

The confirmed death toll has reached 80, including numerous children, with 11 girls from Camp Mystic still missing.Authorities face challenges in determining the total number of missing individuals due to the presence of unregistered, independent campers. Without official records, it’s unclear how many people were in the area when the flood hit.

The disaster occurred at 3:30 a.m., when most were asleep, further complicating emergency response efforts.Historically, the area has experienced similar events, including a deadly flood in 1987 and another in 1957, but none match the scale of this tragedy. Search and rescue efforts continue with 400 personnel.
