Welcome to Chronicles of Old Singapore. Dr Ho Nai Kiong spent much of his childhood in a shophouse at 251 South Bridge Road. He tells me how his parents came to Singapore and how his father was beaten by the Japanese during the war. He remembers the goldsmiths along South Bridge Road and why people bought gold in the past. One of the goldsmiths was On Cheong Jewellery, founded by his father in 1936.
