We have reached episode 48 on our comeback tour. The ramp up today continues as we chat about our upcoming guests and plans for the show, including upcoming trips and planned future guests. Among those we name check are past guests are Chet Lenczewski, a guy who knows an incredible amount of beer, and who Jo has to pay. Sonya Sklaroff is the painter we can’t wait to see again; yes, she is name-checked on And Just Like That… the Sex and the City reboot, which Kevin saw on her Insta. It is so great to be back recording podcasts again, as we march to our big 50th episode.
We record our shows at The Lambs, America’s oldest professional theatrical organization. Our theme song is by the late, great Big Ed Cody (RIP).

Joanna and Kevin
The podcast is finally back. Joanna and Kevin’s Big Show took an extended break since the last episode in March 2022. Episode 47 here, and we are catching up and planning big things for the show. Joanna has been up to lots, including managing the best bar in the East Village, Doc Holliday’s. She is now painting and finding other creative outlets. The Show now has a new website with all of our archives posted. Kevin and Joanna on the roof of The Lambs.
Still a little rusty after our podcasting hiatus, we have dusted off the cobwebs by now for our third episode since our big time off. In this episode, Joanna and Kevin talk about the return of poker playing, writing books, and side hustles. Joanna’s eBay store is heating up, and Kevin is looking forward to going to New Orleans one of these days for Tales of the Cocktails. Will Jo go? We wrap up with what we are looking forward to as we approach our 50th episode. You can contact us through our new website, which has it’s soft launch.

Joanna and Kevin
In our first broadcast together since May 2020, Joanna and Kevin settle into the groove of getting the Big Show back up and running. We are together again at The Lambs, catching up. It is indeed sad that we lost two of our guests, Billy the Artist from Episode 4, and Big Ed Cody from Episode 16. Ed also recorded our theme song, which we are keeping on the opening and closing of the show.In this episode we talk about the state of New York City today; what it is like to work and live in Manhattan. Jo explains what the bar business is currently like, as she runs Doc Holliday’s on Avenue A, and deals with shortages and training new staff. We also make a pledge to produce a lot more shows in 2022. Thanks for sticking with us!
Joanna has a new side hustle, visit her eBay Store for vintage clothes, jewelry, books and more.

With life shutdown everyplace close to us, we make some changes. Joanna has launched a home business with an Etsy store to sell DIY cocktail mixes to make bloody marys and Moscow mules yourself, hand sanitizer, healthy hair serum, and essential oil roller bottles. We talk about the changing nature of the New York bar scene, and what the changes brought by the pandemic mean to life in the city. Kevin has been leading virtual walking tours and keeping busy, but we both believe the city will recover and survive. Support the show by shopping with Jo or going on a virtual tour with Kevin.
We realize the sound quality isn’t as good as what you’d get from NPR. The show is being recorded via Zoom, so we are still working out the kinks to make it sound better. During this crisis, we plan to put out more podcasts.

Queen Elizabeth
With rhinestones on her facemask and wearing purple or camouflage, the always-stylish Queen Elizabeth is out with quarantine fashion in Brooklyn these days. We chat with the Williamsburg resident while she’s stuck at home, sometimes on her sewing machine adding bling to her vintage clothes. By day she works for one the most recognizable fashion designers, but that is on hold for now. A longtime regular at Doc Holliday’s and other East Village joints, Liz is one of our favorite people and we’ve been trying to get this good friend on the show for months and months. We talk about social distancing and meeting friends on Zoom, what it’s like to not be able to go to bowling alleys and parties, and how we are all making the best of a bad situation. Just the fact that Liz is fashioning better-looking facemasks to wear around is reason enough to listen to our show. Follow her Instagram for more about her.Joanna and Kevin are both doing creative endeavors during the stay-at-home time period. On Fridays at 5pm Jo hosts a virtual happy hour. And Kevin has virtual walking tours.

Dave Gardner
It’s the ship everyone has heard about. For the 41st episode of the podcast—still recorded remotely—Joanna and Kevin’s Big Show welcomes tour guide Dave Gardner who offers RMS Titanic walking tours. Dave has a wealth of knowledge about the fateful 1912 voyage and offers insightful (and fun) tours of locations around Manhattan that have ties to the shipwreck. His tours are packed with history and we get the scoop on how they came about. Todd Montesi
We need to laugh. For the 40th episode of the podcast—and the first one recorded remotely—Joanna and Kevin’s Big Show welcomes comedian Todd Montesi. For more than a dozen years he’s been the host of a roving underground comedy series, the Ug! Comedy Show, a downtown New York showcase. While Todd is stuck at home in Brooklyn, he’s making and sharing comedy online with this friends on his Instagram Live Show.On the show, we talk about what we’re doing at home and how to be creative. Todd shares that he’s doing virtual shows, with everyone from friends (and a stripper) as guests on his show. Todd has a long-running series PN & Friends on YouTube. He has appeared on such shows as Crashing on HBO. Follow Todd on Twitter, Instagram, and his ubiquitous Facebook Page.

At The Lambs with Greg and Tom.
The stars aligned and we were able to bring New York’s favorite podcast heroes on the Big Show: Greg Young and Tom Meyers. They are best known as The Bowery Boys, and for more than 300 episodes they have delivered New York City history with equal doses of knowledge and fun. In this show we learned about the roots of the show and their rock-solid friendship that goes back to the early 90s in NYC. They are passionate about the city and it’s past (and future). The occasion for the appearance is that they are hosting the Guides Association of New York City Apple Awards on March 2 at the SVA Theatre. This is their second time as hosts, and they offered up their tips and hints about the show. They are past winners, as we are for our podcast last year. Joanna is presenting, and Kevin is nominated for 111 Places In The Bronx That Your Must Not Miss.If there is one reason not to miss streaming this episode, it’s to hear where Tom and Greg would go in their time machines back to Old New York. More about the Apple Awards here. Follow The Bowery Boys Podcast, their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Also check out their cool Patreon page.
We record the show at The Lambs, 3 West 51st Street. Founded in 1874, it’s America’s first professional theatrical club (not to be confused with a restaurant). Our theme song is by Big Ed Cody, leader of the Whiskey Wranglers.
