Imagine scaling a mountain. You're standing at the base, looking at the peak. Daunting, isn't it? Now, imagine that mountain is the tech industry, and you're a woman aiming to reach the top. This is a reality our guest, Bobbie King, CEO and co-founder of SQEPtech, faced. We'll be taking you through her incredible journey from her childhood in Romania, all the way to the tech industry in the UK. A tale of perseverance, courage, and the power of technology in enabling remote work.

Bobbie’s story is one of resilience and determination. We explore her challenges in a male-dominated industry, the crucial support from her parents and partner, Phil, and the intriguing encounter that sparked her ambition. We also chat about her partnership with Jon Ball and the leap of faith they took in creating SQEPtech, a successful remote business employing over 30 people, without ever having met in person. Their story offers a unique angle on leadership, partnership, and the power of complementary skills.

In the latter part of our conversation, we dive into the intricacies of fostering a positive company culture, anchored on integrity, openness, and sensitivity. Bobbie provides a unique perspective on how her Romanian values influence her business ethos. She candidly discusses the importance of employee engagement and the role technology plays in fostering an open outlook on possibilities. As we wrap up, Bobbie reflects on her personal growth in the tech industry, the importance of lifelong learning, and the exciting prospects of tech advancement. Have you ever wondered how the dreams of your childhood could possibly shape your future? Well, on this maiden episode of 'JobsWorth' we explore that very concept with my guest, Lisa Hawker, who also happens to be my Mum.

We discuss her evolution from aspiring spy and actress to a successful self-employed artist. From banking to BT, all the way through to the discovery of her true passion - ceramics, this is a tale of courage, determination, and resilience. A single full-time mother juggling parenting, work, and education, all while pursuing her dream career, Mum's story is testament to the fact that sometimes, the most unconventional path can lead to the most rewarding destination.

As she opens up about her journey, we learn about her struggles, triumphs, and the lessons she's learned along the way as well as the importance of self-belief when it comes to pursuing your dreams.

Anyone who is lucky enough to have their mum around knows that as you get older, opportunities to actually sit down and speak to your parents are pretty rare and whilst I thought I might immediately regret the decision to have her on as the first guest I feel so fortunate I got the chance to record this.

Enjoy.
