This is the first of an ongoing episode in which I share a brief thought, usually related to politics, public discourse, etc. This first edition is, for some, a review of high school civics class, but for others, a good response to others who try to deny that the US was supposed to be guided by democratic principles. When they fire back that the US is a republic, that's true, but the discussion doesn't stop there. What are the possible guiding principles for a republic?
