John 11–13 moves toward the climax of Jesus’ ministry. Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead, revealing his authority over life and death and setting in motion the resolve of the leaders to put him to death. As opposition hardens, Jesus enters Jerusalem and prepares his disciples for what is to come.

During the final meal with his disciples, Jesus washes their feet and gives a new commandment: to love one another as he has loved them. These chapters reveal a Messiah who conquers death not by force, but through humble service and self-giving love.
