John 18–21 recounts Jesus’ arrest, trial, crucifixion, and burial, portrayed with calm authority even in suffering. Jesus is lifted up on the cross as king, fulfilling Scripture and completing his work with the words, “It is finished.”

The Gospel concludes with the resurrection: the empty tomb, appearances to the disciples, and the risen Jesus restoring Peter and commissioning his followers. John ends by affirming that these signs are written so that readers may believe and have life in his name.
