16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.REFLECTIONSWritten by Gus CameronToday, as we reach the half-way point of 2020, we’re taking a moment to think back to the plans we had for this year – to remember what changed, and what hasn’t changed. You might remember the black “Pray for 3:16” postcards that we handed out in church way back on the 15th of March. It was a reminder to pray for all the things we hoped to do in the following months to share the Gospel with our friends, especially using John 3:16. Just 2 weeks later those plans went out the window as church went online and we all stayed home. Who would have imagined! The last 3 months have been very different to anything we’ve experienced before, but the need to take the message of John 3:16 remains just as important. Perhaps this crisis has even given us greater opportunity to share it, as people realise the uncertainty of this life.Let’s take a moment to reflect on John 3:16 again.God still loves the world. He knows the world is broken because of our sin, but he still loves the world. His love is no ordinary love, but costly love, love that cost his precious Son his life as he was lifted up on a cross to die for our sin. And for those who believe this truth, God’s promise is eternal life. The postcard has a space at the bottom for you to write the name of someone you’d pray for, someone you might share John 3:16 with. Did you write a name there? Can you think of someone now? Pray for yourself, that God would help you to speak about God’s love in sending Jesus. And pray for your friend, that God would help them believe and so take them from death to eternal life.ABOUT THE AUTHORGus is an Assistant Minister with our Fairfield congregations and he’s glad to be able to get out and enjoy the great outdoors again.
