This is the very first podcast that former All Black coach John Hart has ever agreed to do (thanks to our mutual mate Kerre Woodham for convincing him to do it)..

John was the coach of the legendary Auckland NPC side who won titles in 82, 84 and 85.  That 1985 side also won the Ranfurly shield and kept it for 61 games which remains a record in shield history.

We talk at length about the disgraceful fallout after the 1999 RWC semifinal loss against France, where he was spat on at a horse race in Christchurch, something which spiraled John into a deep and long-lasting depression.

John is a man who has devoted a lot of his life to NZ sport- in rugby he coached 142 games for a total of three teams and retired from the sport with a win record of 84.5%

He keeps his head down these days by choice so I can’t thank him enough for coming over to chat- especially about some of the less sexy stuff. I really enjoyed spending time with John and I hope you do too.

Thanks very much to Radix Nutrition for sponsoring this episode. Without there support, it would not be possible to keep bringing you these conversations- it’s a fair amount of work each week and their investment is crucial. I only tell you this so that you may be compelled to check out what they are all about and, if you like what you see, maybe become a customer. I almost guarantee that once you try their products, you will become a fan- they are that good. https://radixnutrition.co.nz/ Hosted on Acast.
