Jesus said, -Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.- Laying down life for friends is not common today except perhaps in military terms. We must never forget their embodiment of Christ's love-The true historical record reveals a picture of the providence of Almighty God in the formation of this great land. He told the religious rulers they worshiped God in vain by laying aside - rejecting the commandment of God, to keep their own traditions. They were letting people get out of helping their parents by claiming what they owned had been offered to God. They dishonored their parents - God by disobeying Him. It is written in 1 Timothy 5-8, -if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.--- Many passages of Scripture teach us to obey God above all others. Everyone owes their allegiance to Almighty God. Sometimes God empowers people who dishonor Him -even dads-. We must honor God above all, no matter what. Honoring our earthly dad honors God because He commanded it.-- In the second example, we hear Jesus' interaction with a rich young ruler who had great possessions. Jesus told him to sell everything and give the proceeds to the poor. The man walked away very sad. He was possessed by his possessions. He was dishonoring his heavenly Father. The riches were not the problem- Jesus knew more about the ruler than the text explains. Jesus said, -it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.- Many preach the get rich doctrine, but ignore the truth. Possessions can possess - control the one who has them. Obedience to God instead of man includes handling His Word properly. There are no problem passages folks- the problem is human teaching. God-s way is blasphemed because of those who teach falsely. Let us obey God rather than men.
