Musician, creative, and hat shaper Gianni Gibson joins the Joint Efforts Podcast for a wide-ranging conversation about music, Nashville, cannabis, fashion, mental health, and continually reinventing yourself without losing who you are. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Gianni grew up surrounded by music and entertainment before studying music in Pasadena and building his own career behind the drums. Eventually, he left California and took a chance on Nashville. After visiting the city for a weekend, Gianni made the move with little more than a duffel bag and a pillow, landed a job at Jimmy John's, and started delivering sandwiches around downtown on a skateboard because he didn't own a bike. That leap eventually led him to Future Thieves and years of creating and performing music. Gianni shares one especially powerful story about learning that a Future Thieves song had reached someone during one of the darkest moments of his life — an experience that helped shape Gianni's belief that artists and people with influence have a responsibility to put something positive back into the world. But music is only one chapter. Gianni talks about stepping into fashion and retail, learning the business side of creativity, working his way into leadership, and eventually becoming obsessed with shaping cowboy and fashion hats. What began by watching Nashville hatmaker Jacob Hillenbrand work eventually turned into another creative craft and Gianni becoming what he jokingly calls the "friendly neighborhood hat guy."
