The story is a coming-of-age drama that follows the recently orphaned 8-year-old chess prodigy, Beth Harmon on her quest to become the world chess champion.

The game brings her new friends and enemies and serves as a mirror to her life as she battles to master not only the game she loves but also her inner demons and addictions.
